Hey! I hope you all are having a great day.

I've decided to hike more often and to take longer routes. So far, there was at least one thing I forgot to check/ bring with me at every hike. I don't have a routine yet and hope I can learn something from you all. So far, I make sure that I bring enough water, full batteries, and empty sd cards for my camera with me.

    Rando Welcome to seek Adventure!

Rando So far, there was at least one thing I forgot to check/ bring with me at every hike.

What items have you been forgetting?

For day hikes, I usually pack these items at a minimum:

    • Water
    • Snacks
    • Maps (phone or paper)
    • Extra layer (depends on season but I usually bring a light sweater the tops of mountains or hills can be quite cool)

On top of that I bring my camera, and tripod everywhere I go!

For longer backpacking and overnight trips I try and plan everything out in an excel document. I created one in Google drive to track my total weight of items and also act as a checklist as I pack things.

The main part of my excel checklist looks like this:

Each category on my spreadsheet has its own tab where you can add items, add their weight, and add if I planned to take them on the trip and whether or not they were packed or not.

When filled out the spreadsheet also makes a nice graph:

If interested you can view my Google Sheets packing list here to download/copy it for your own use.

If the excel sheet is to complicated for you to edit for your own use there is a great website called Lighter Pack which is super simple to use for tracking what you are packing. You can make a day pack "list" and save it.

MikeJones What items have you been forgetting?

      • extra layer (it is getting way colder when the sun goes down)
      • empty batteries for my camera (had like 22% at the beginning on the trip)
      • no flashlight (has become essential for me, even for day trips (multiple reasons))

Thank you for your great feedback.
I currently have 3 different backpacks in different sizes and with different features. I've learned to appreciate the 'fast access' slot for my camera and tend to use this backpack even if I don't need all the space.

I can share my equipment if someone is interested.

Rando I recently forgot to bring extra GoPro batteries on my last hike.. I had to ration my one battery!

I'm interested in what gear you take on your adventures👋What camera do you use? Have you tried the Peak Design Capture Clip? I used the clip during my trip to Italy. It was awesome, although I definitely stood out as a tourist, lol.
