How are you planning trips during covid?

To be honest, being at home constant has brought my anxiety up tenfold. Which now makes it harder for me to go do anything. I love kayak, fishing, and really just being outside in general. But, with Covid and all the restrictions on certain things it making it hard for me to get the courage to do those things.

Honestly if you do it right kayaking and fishing may be the safest things you can do, because its easy to social distance during these activities; but you have to be smart about it. For example I wouldn't go on a fishing charter boat crammed with a bunch of strangers but that's just me. Each individual has to access their own risk tolerance in accordance with local law.

One of my favorite COVID-19 outdoor activities is snorkeling! Everyone is socially distancing and wearing a mask! I just don't usually stick around to stay on the packed beach afterwards.

Nabix How are you planning trips during COVID-19?

While planning trips during COVID-19, I would consider these things:

    1. Pack a mask
    2. Make sure you can socially distance
    3. Check local laws (this can be tricky they are changing rapidly)
    4. Check if you need permits

For masks I like using a light gaiter type mask for hiking. On a lot of trails I hike there are not a lot of people and the gaiter mask is easy to pull up quickly if you see people coming from the distance away.

As for permits there are a lot of places that are starting to use permits that have not in the past. So trails can be limited especially in national forest and national parks. At this point things are changing so fast I would always call the local ranger.

Permit systems can be a pain but at the same time you may be able to experience places in a unique and less busy way than you could before COVID-19. For instance check out this article on Yosemite here.

It was different from where I live. You do not need permits for outdoor activates and since indoor activities such as the gym, cinema, and so on had been closed, outdoor activities were well attended.

Do you live in the United States? Most national parks need permits etc. Not sure what backpacking etc is like outside the United States

Germany. We don't have national parks, but a lot of hiking trails and smaller parks. Wasn't aware that you have to have a permit to visit national parks in the US.

Pretty much any overnight trip in a national park requires a permit and then some of the more popular day hikes will require one as well
