  • Protecting the Face in a Sleeping Bag

Hi Mike,
Due to the earthquake in Turkey, I had to go to the region through the Scouting Federation. I can say that scouting was the hardest camp of my life, as the winter conditions in the region are very harsh.

I couldn't protect my face because it was very cold at night. I pulled the ropes on the head of the sleeping bag and wrapped my head around my head, but my nose remained outside. Because of this, my nose was seriously burned.

What are you doing to protect your nose out? Can you give me suggestions?

Can Pleasure to meet you! can welcome to the forum.

Can I ask were you sleeping in a tent or just "cowboy camping" meaning you just had a sleeping bag on the ground?

If you were just cowboy camping I would suggest a small tent to help trap some of your body heat in. If you are just by yourself, a bivy sack such as the Outdoor Research Helium Bivy (Amazon Affiliate).

If a bivy is to expensive, check out a Balcava winter mask (Amazon Affiliate) and that may help as well. I prefer a Bivy though.

Husky tent with 4 of my friends with me. I wasn't cold in the sleeping bag, but my face burned because my face was outside, I have brown skin and my skin burned in a way that resembles a sunburn.

Can What were the temperatures around? Balcava might be your best bet. Or get a larger sleeping bag then you need, and go all the way inside lol.

MikeJones The temperature was between -7 and -15 at night because I am not used to it. Thank you for your suggestions.
